ABUJA, NIGERIA - The Catholic Bishop of Ilorin Diocese, Most Rev. Ayo Maria Atoyebi, has described the Rosary as a very powerful weapon that can be used to successfully counter the atrocities of terrorism and other evil activities in the country. He however cautioned that it has to be prayed fervently and with commitment in spiritually motivated life with humility and perseverance. He also urged the people to be virtuous and good in life. Bishop Ayo Maria made this assertion in his exhortation talk on \'The Power of the Rosary\', during the National Catholic prayer Pilgrimage Vigil, held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, on Friday, June 1, 2012. Giving several instances where the Rosary has miraculously rescued the people from their predicaments since the 16th century, Bishop Ayo Maria called on the faithful to have confidence in God, be clean and holy and always call on Mother Mary to intercede for the country and Nigerians and save us from the atrocities of Boko Haram and other vices that are retarding the progress of the country. Pointing out that in the present circumstances, the country is in danger and the Christian/Catholic faith on trial, the Bishop noted that while the enemies have weapons, we have God adding that no power on earth can overcome the power of God. He stated; God is our comprehensive insurance while Mary is the Mediatrix and Advocate. While noting that Jesus did not promise the Church perpetual peace but perpetual victory, Bishop Ayo Maria stressed that if we say the rosary devotedly to call on Mother Mary to intercede for the country, a miracle will happen as it has happened in other places of the world where the people have entrusted their problems into the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Using several passages in the Bible to buttress his point, the bishop urged the people that We must wage the war of prayer, saying the Rosary, Constantly, Consistently and Commitedly and we shall be victorious. Bishop Ayo Maria noted that the Rosary is powerful because: \"It is a prayer through which we lift our hearts and minds to God; It is powerful because it is an evangelical prayer shedding illumination on our pilgrim way and dispelling all forms of darkness; It is powerful because it gives us the hope of salvation; It is powerful because it identifies us with Christ\'s life, passion, death and resurrection, and to share his suffering so that we may also share his resurrection and it is powerful because it gives us a glimpse of the inscrutable work of God and the incomprehensible mystery of God\'s love in our salvation,\" among others.
